The following table lists ways in which you can customize the appearance and layout of views.
Task | How to… |
---|---|
Show a view | Use View > (View Name) > Show. |
Change the style (fonts, colors, calculation metrics and more) | Use the Style panel and its subsections. Customization for font style and size applies to all text in a view. Individual rows cannot have different styles. |
Move one or more sequence rows as a group | Sequence rows in some views may be rearranged one at a time or as contiguous groups using drag and drop. First, select the desired rows using Ctrl/Cmd+click or Shift+click. Next, drag the selected row(s) to the desired location and release the mouse button. Any ordering changes made to one view are simultaneously made to the other. |
Detach a view | Only certain views can be detached. To do this, right-click on the view tab and choose Detach (View Name). Detaching a view turns it into a free-floating window. Note that each detached view has menus in the upper left corner. For example, if you detach a Tree view and then wish to use commands such as Tree > Root On, you must use the menu in the detached view rather than the menu in the main MegAlign Pro window. |
Reattach all detached views to their original locations | Use View > Reattach All Views. |
Show the active view in full-screen mode | Use the View > Full Screen command or the Full screen tool at the bottom right corner of the view, or press Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+F. |
Exit from full-screen mode | Click the Esc key, use the Exit Full Screen tool () at the bottom of the full-screen view, or press Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+F. |
Configure the number and location of visible views. | Use the View > Document Layout command or the Change layout tool (image varies) in the bottom right corner of the view to access possible layouts. The following options are available:
|
Zoom in or out on a view | Some views have independent vertical and horizontal zoom in/out sliders. Grab any green slider with your mouse and drag left/right or up/down to zoom in or out in the view. For details, see the table just below this one. |
Split a view vertically | Use Overview > Split View or Analysis > Split View. The split can be moved by dragging it left or right with the mouse. Alternatively, you can drag the vertical splitter tool (), found at the right edge of the view, in a leftward direction. When the Analysis view is split vertically, the Overview provides a separate viewport indicator for each section. Splits are ignored when printing or exporting an image, although the layout is preserved. |
Remove the right-most vertical split | Use Overview > Remove Split or Analysis > Remove Split. Or drag the divider as far as you can to the side of the view and drop it there. |
To view two or more documents simultaneously on a split screen | By default, only one document at a time is displayed, even if several documents are open. To view two or more documents simultaneously on a split screen, drag a project tab in a downward, right or left direction. When you see a black arrow, release the mouse button. Documents can be re-docked in their original positions by reversing this process. |
Return to the default window display | Choose View > Reset Panel Layout. |
Three of MegAlign Pro’s views (Sequences, Tree and Overview) all have independent vertical and horizontal zoom in/out sliders. The following table uses the Sequences view as an example to show the look of the sequences and some of the detail tracks at different zoom levels.
Track | Maximum Zoom | Medium Zoom | Minimum Zoom |
---|---|---|---|
Sequences | Once the letters disappear, only the background color, if any, is shown. |
At minimal zoom levels, sequences are shown as colored bars with white gaps. |
|
Sequence Logo | Once the logo letters disappear, only the background color, if any, is shown. |
Some tracks cannot be displayed at low zoom levels, and prompt you to zoom in. |

GC Content | Some tracks cannot be displayed at low zoom levels, and prompt you to zoom in. |
