Open a PDB file when you know the ID

To open a PDB file when you know the ID:

1. Choose File > Open from PDB or press Ctrl/Cmd+D. For an additional shortcut to this command, see The Welcome Screen.

2. Type a valid 4-digit ID in the text box. All PDB IDs consist of a single-digit number followed by three additional characters. These three characters may consist of numbers and/or letters of the English alphabet.

3. (optional) If you plan to enter additional IDs, check Open another.

4. Press OK. The structure will open in Protean 3D. If you checked Open another in the previous step, the Open from PDB dialog will re-open automatically.

*Note: Protean 3D always uses the sequence from the original PDB file. When a PDB file is saved as a .structure file, two copies of the original sequence are stored in that file. The first copy, used whenever the file is opened in Protean 3D, cannot be edited. The second copy can be edited with DNASTAR’s SeqBuilder Pro, and the edits can be viewed in some additional DNASTAR Lasergene applications.
