Protean 3D’s user interface is controlled by a combination of menu commands, toolbar icon selections and mouse clicks. For best results, we recommend using a 3-button mouse with Protean 3D. However, single-button versions and trackpads are also supported.
If you are using a 1-button mouse, Protean 3D offers alternatives such as using a menu command in conjunction with a mouse click.
If you are a Mac user with a Mac Mighty Mouse, or similar, you can follow the 3-button mouse instructions, as long as the second and third mouse buttons are enabled. Please refer to the manufacturer’s literature for more information.
If you are a trackpad user, you may need to change the configuration of your trackpad to recognize scrolling motions:
- Windows 8: Select Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings > (Select the trackpad) > Settings > Scrolling and change the settings to allow scrolling. When this Protean 3D user’s guide calls for scrolling, do so by drawing one finger up or down along the right edge of the trackpad.
- Windows 7: Select Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Mouse, and choose the Device Settings tab. Change the settings to allow scrolling. When this Protean 3D user’s guide calls for scrolling, do so by drawing one finger up or down along the right edge of the trackpad.
- Macintosh: Select System Preferences > Trackpad. Change the settings to allow scrolling. When this Protean 3D user’s guide calls for scrolling, do so by drawing two fingers together across the trackpad.
